From all I've read, Frank is a great friend and modeler, I would have been honored to have met him.

I never had the privilege of meeting him, but it was Frank's dedication to, and promotion of, scale r/c modeling that helped to fuel my passion for this great hobby. Over the decades, reading about Top Gun or any of the other events he created, was always a tremendous source of pleasure for me.
We've lost way too many like Frank this past year. Blue skies Mr. Tiano...

Really sorry to read this - I never met Frank, but I read and heard a lot about him. Clearly a man to be missed.

Frank will definitely be missed. He was a man of virtue, integrity, and generosity. Many years ago I read an article in an RC publication (the name escapes me -- the editor may have been Gordon Parks?) about a middle school teacher who was using RC as a teaching tool. It interested me, and that publication was awarding subscriptions for contests monthly. I won a subscription and donated it to the aforementioned teacher for his class. Few weeks later I received notes from the students and the teacher for the subscription they received. Well, Frank Tiano was a contributing writer to that publication, and when he read about my simple gesture, he sent a whole big box of supplies......glue, etc. to that class.
Frank Tiano will certainly be missed by all who knew him as well as people who never met him.
RIP Frank and soar with those who flew West before you.

Gentlemen,
It will take me a week to go through R/C Modeler magazines to find the one that has Frank with a puffy fro. Way before he shaved the scalp. It might be Flying Models.
I met Frank when I was 14. I flew Dirty Birdys when scale was the Half Time entertainment at Pattern Meets in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Dave Brown and Don Lowe and Hal Perenti were regulars.
I had 2 Dirty Birdys and a Platt 190 I'd fly during the Half time hour. Frank came up and said "It looks nice, what engine? Retracts? Don't use too much aileron. I was a kid.
I was scared. When I reflect, it's clear for Frank's love of the hobby we all enjoy. I have Top Gun vids on VHS since the Polo Grounds. I'm going to watch a few tonight.
Best Regards,
Bill
