Hi all,
I have had a Saito 325 unused in it's box for around three years intended for a Bates Dauntless but that has shuddered to a halt. Towards the end of last year I became resolved to get the radial into the air, so I looked round for something scale but not taking too long and not too demanding in detail. The Meteor filled the bill being designed around the Saito and there seems to be very little info. around. It is a Traplet plan and the build was started early last November sharing time with the Bryant SE5 (other designers) and wheeled out today.

It is 1/4 scale giving a span of 96" and weighing in at 21lb.

The turtle decking is litho plate contact glued to 1/32" ply which was formed over foam, later removed. It is all removable for access to servos, batteries, etc. The plan is a bit vague and the appropriate magazine article is a must as it gives valuable clues. One surprise is only two ribs are shown, I had to invest in and learn how to use rib plotting software.

The landing gear is home made from the drawing and uses O rings as the springing medium.

But the heart of it all is the Saito what a beautiful engine. The cowl is covered in Flite-Metal as I didn't want to get involved in panel beating, quite presentable but easily scratched.

There is a McDaniel glo driver on board its 3000mAh battery being mounted way back in the fuselage to counterbalance the Saito's weight . Very effective as the balance point looks very close with a rough check, some apparatus will have to be rigged up to get it spot on.

Another one on the maiden list, one or two must now qualify for spinster category, don't fly myself and my pilot is into earning a living, kids, wife and all that boring stuff.

The Meteor took to the air successfuly yesterday and everything went well, just needs some permanent uptrim building in. In hindsight should have copied the fullsize adjustable taiplane, but the main object of the build was to get the Saito into the air and this has been a 100% success, what a sound.

My computor is down at the moment and I am struggling with the wifes, I can now understand why she is so grumpy.

Thanks Nigel, Septic will be on to me now about the Mustang. It refused again Danny but a minor fault now sorted, any time now (). Then the Spitfire and all completed models will be where they belong.
