Hi fellow scale modellers,
I just completed the 1/4 scale Miles Hawk Speed Six from plans designed by Phillip Kent and I wish to 'pop the champagne' with you. The wingspan is 86" and the weight came up to 8.8kgs, bit high, contributed mainly from the nose ballast, ply skinning and paint prep. Nevertheless, it should fly well powered by the Laser 150S 4-stroke.
The photos are at:

and the build sequence at:

Comments, constructive or destructive, are welcome.
Regards,
Sunny

Sunny,
I have the plans and all the bits except the canopy. The plans and pictures show a canopy with a peak in the middle so the pilot will fit. I see that on your version this is not represented is there some other canopy that would make it a bit easier to replicate or is this a small deivation from scale?
I'm sure that it will fly just fin at that weight.

Hi Sparky,
Thanks for your response. Yes, the canopy is not scale. Unlike the BF109E posted in this forum recently, I built this as a general flyer and did not plan to make it exact scale if it was too troublesome.

Sunny

I'd be interested in a flight report when you get that far...........as my Dad is currently working on a 10% enlarged Speed 6 from the same Phil Kent plans, powered by a ZG38.

Sunny,
I realize that you are down under and postage would be crazy but
tell me about you markings and maybe they are available in a file.
How did you manage the Speed 6 logo I was thinking I would do the
wings in foam/balsa. I have a Saito 150 planned for mine.

Beauty! Nice lines! One of the many reasons I like 'Golden Age' airplanes like the one you have built is the color scheme. The blue and cream is absolutely gorgeous!!!

Hi Sparky,
The small white letterings were just the rub-on Letraset available from art supplies. The large letterings were enlarged computer graphics traced and cut out into self-adhesive vinyls. The eagle logo was simply a leftover decal from a 1/32 scale Tamiya F14 plastic model. You can get a lots of eagle logos from: http://www.google.com.au/images?hl=en&source=imghp&b iw=1916&bih=949&q=eagle+logos&gbv=2&aq=f& ;aqi=g8g-m2&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai =

The 1/4 scale Hawk Speed 6 that my father has based his 10% enlargement on is available from Traplet Publications here in the UK.................
Traplet Publications - Hawk Speed 6 plan
Hope this helps.............
The model is now almost complete & ready for fabric covering.
