Richard,
Depending on your time line and how much driving you want to do.
If you head north into Georgia a stop at Mac Hodges near Americus, GA is worth while. There is a civil war museum near by well worth the vist although quite sobering as it was a confederate prison for union soldiers during our civil war back in 1865.
The museum of Naval Aviation is 9 hours from TG. ( check on google maps) and enroute you will drive by Eglin AFB and several interesting other aviation museums. The blue Angles flight demonstration team is based in NAS Pensacola and does a free practice during the week but you will have to check the schedule.
OBTW Pensacola is a great place to visit and the beaches are pristine.

Quote: XoarProps Hi Richard,
Just wondered if you need any help while you are here. We are just test flying our aircraft at the moment. We have an entry in Pro Am and one in unlimited.
There is a great amount of enthusiasm for Top Gun this year and Warbird Alley will be very active.
Let me know your plans
Steve

Hey John,
I can't wait to see how you did a set of retracts on your Skymaster, that is an engineering accomplishment! Or are you flying a different Skymaster other than a Cessna? That airplane has to have one of the strangest ways to retract the wheels of anything out there. How about a photo?

I will be attending Top Gun this year given I live about 1 1/2 hours away. Looking forward to seeing some of you there. I will be a spectator only. I've been looking at Google Earth trying to locate the model flying field used for Top Gun and admittedly can't seem to locate it. I do see what might be a model airplane runway just SW of the airport runway 5? Is that the field? Can anyone enlighten me as to where/how to enter the field? Enter from Air Show Rd.? It says Gate 36 but I see that Airshow Rd. says Gate 44? on the Goggle (street view) map. Bob T.

There's a map on the FTE Top Gun website. You enter off of W.Pipkin Rd. It's pretty easy to find. I will be flying a 1/3 scale Siemens-Schuckert in ProAm Sport and my Me-110 in the warbird gaggle. Should be fun! Jim

See if this will help you out, I got it off of Frank's face book page. The new field is accessed through the same gate as the old field, its just that Frank has moved the field closer to the gate and road. If you drive out to the airport along West Pipkin Rd you can't miss the turn off, Frank always has big signs and banners flying at the gate.
I'm looking forward to putting faces to names also, see you guys there,

Thanks guys. I got a little confused when I saw Gate 44 on the map and Frank says Gate 36 but it's the same road I thought it was. I see that what I thought was a model airplane field was indeed that. I thought it was a bit close to the end of runway 5 and perhaps that's why they moved (just speculating). Thanks again, looking forward to seeing you there, Bob T.
