It was a Don Smith plans built Mosquito, the builder is Steve Peckham who is a member of the Tide Water R/C club just up the road from where I live. The model weighed in at 50lb's and the reason for the crash was an engine flame out in the middle of a low altitude roll out over the trees. There was nothing left but a pile of balsa, it made me sick to see that happen. I think Steve only had 6 or 7 flights on the plane.

Oh man that does stink, especially with so few flighta on it.   Engine outs are no fun and something i have been trying hard to stay away from, but the thrill of multi's keeps calling me back... And for as popular as the mosquito is, you rarely ever see any... Which i really like!

I'm a former member of TRC (1995-ish) however I don't know Steve (likely he joined after I left) but I do still look into their website from time to time. Steve unfortunately lost a really beautiful BF-110, which looks like a DS plans 110, in June of '08 .....There's a video (3 part) on Youtube of the airplane and its demise. The Mosquito looks like it was similarly detailed. It's a real shame.

Here is a close up shot of the Bf-110 that your talking about, Steve is an outstanding builder who just won't give up on twin engine models! I took this photo several years ago at the very first "Warbirds over the Beach" that was held at the Virginia Military Aviation Museum at Pungo.
