Been out of modeling for a long time. Very excited to be coming back. I've built a few kit planes in my previous modeling life and now want to try my hand at getting good at it. Any starter projects that anyone can suggest? I like bipes. Was thinking of maybe starting with a full kit of maybe a pica YMF-3 or the 1/5 scale. Any help in giving me a nudge in the right direction will be appreciated.
Thanks
Mike

Welcome back Mike. Your audience is world wide these days.
How about a Fleet Bipe. If you can find a Concept Models Kit on on the web, grab it. Easy build, looks good and flies well. Great start up spot for a scalie.
Cheers
Phil

Welcome Mike.
You will be hard pressed to find a Pica kit nowadays. maybe on Ebay or in the sale threads on this and other sites. If you check Precision Cut Kits you may find something in their catalog - they are about the only ones supplying full kits any more (besides top flight and a couple others).
If you don't mind small and electric, check Pat's Custom Models - he has some fine examples.
When you have found your project and are ready to start, please do a build thread and check the site supporter program HERE

I may have settled on a couple of things. Balsa USA has a 1/4 scale bipe I like and since I've been away from hobby for a long long time my gut is telling me to go in that direction decause of detailed building instructions with photos for dummies. That way maybe I can knock off some rust and relearn some things I've forgotten. I also have a line on some pica kits that I may put on the shelf. Don't expect much out of me for awhile. We are in the process of closing on a new house (with 30x50' shop) and won't have time to start these projects. Very motivated to get start but don't want to move these projects in midstream. Any other better suggestions would be appreciated. Not very good at searching web to find things so if someone has simple to find ideas for a beginner, that too would be helpful.
Thanks in advance
Mike

One last question. What do you think a Pica YMF-3 1/6 scale and a 1/5scale kit would be worth? Appears to be all there.
Thanks
Mike

If I see him this weekend I will check with a buddy who does a lot of "shopping"But at a SWEG - probably $300 or better.
**** Edit **** Just checked ebay - the 72" one is going for about $260, and a 1/6 for 200

Well I've made my decision. No building will take place for awhile because of upcoming move, but I've purchased a pica Waco YMF-3 1/6 stand off scale, which will be what I build first and a Concept Fleet 1/4 scale. Can't wait to get started but I'll need to be patient. It might be a few months before I can start. Oh well, gives me time to read, brush up and do it right.
Any suggestions on power plants for these guys? A lot more options then there was 25 years ago and it seems harder to find one stop shopping.
