Had a good afternoon at the local field on Monday. Temp was just tolerable for us warm weather Texians. Had a few warbirds show up and flew several times. One in particular, a DO-335 two seater belonging to Lawrence Harville, wasn't able to get the engines operating properly, so he missed out on flight. The Aeroworks P-51D (Barry Ponder), Top Flite P-40 (Darrell Abby), unknown maker ME-163 (Bob Mueller), and my ESM F4U flew great. Thanks to local photog Glenn Baker for the nice pics.

Looks like fun, we have a warm weekend coming up so hopefully I'll get some flying in also.
I thought Ira Kepford flew the F4U #29 with the Jolly Rogers VF-17, who was Lane Crabtree?

Larry, Haha. The "Major" is me! Had to put that on there to make the model a bit personalized and suggest that the pilot is a Marine. Glenn Baker just managed to take a good close up of the F4U cockpit on Monday, so he sent it to me. That's an Aces of Iron pilot in 8th Air Force garb.

Nothing wrong with that! You did a very nice job on the pilot, I have a couple of "Aces of Iron" pilots and the detail that is put into them is fantastic. It's great to see a club thats into scale and not ARF ugly sticks!

Yes, Larry, we have a pretty good scale contingent here. Several of the guys like to go Top Gun and US Scale Masters. We host the regional Scale Masters Qualifier in June. This will be the 4th year we hosted, I believe. I flew in FUN Scale two years, but may step up a notch to Advanced this year. Darrell Abby (P-40 above) won the Scale Masters Qualifier (Advanced) last year and went to nationals - he won 5th place first time ever to the USSM. Pretty cool! The P-40 was what he flew in the competition.
We also have several noted "scale" scratch and kit builders here that do some awesome work.
Glad you like the pilot! Thanks, Lane
