I built and flew .40 size rc's in the mid 80's while I lived in North Louisiana. I started with a Carl Goldberg "Eagle", then the Low Wing Version fo the Eagle...can't remember the Name of that one, on to a Graet Planes Sportster 40, a SIG Cougar, built a Great Planes Cherokee 40 that I never flew and then I moved to Texas....ended up selling all my stuff for a song and dance. I didn't ever forsee the opportunity to fly again coming my way so I got out.
Then Last year the Airplane "BUG" got me....I wanted to fly Again....so I go to the hobby shop and was Shocked at all the changes since I was Active in the Hobby....and they inform me that airplane Glow fuel is now $20.00 a Gallon...Whew!!! And we used to complain when it was at $6.00 a Gal.....Man o Man. So i decided I would buy Giant Scale and use Gasoline. I bought aq Great Planes Edge 27% and a DSE DL-55 Gas Engine....I'm thinkin..I'mmmm Back!!!! LOL....but my friends down at the flyin field didn't see it that way.....they Insisted I purchase a Smaller Plane...A Trainer even...I'm thinkin...No Way am I gonna go back to a Trainer...those were so Dull and BORING....hehehehe....so finally I gave in and have purchased a Great Planes Cherokee ARF that is almost ready for the air and am hoping to make the maiden flight before August gets here....with an Instructor at my side. So thats a little about me and I look forward to getting involved more and do some actual Building in the near future....seems as if nobody wants to Build anymore, we didn't have ARF's and the such back when I was flying, we built everything from kits....I enjoyed building and will get back into it as I build my tool collection for building soon. My AMA membership is Current and will be flying at a Really nice field just south of Houston, TX. They have a Criss-Cross Landing Strip 700' N/S and about 500' E/W...Nicest I have ever seen and cn't wait to fly there. Been there one time but can't wait to go Regularly...it's Nice, Open and Man...What a Field. I'll hush for now so this Intro doesn't become a Book...<Grin>. Talk to ya'll soon.
