Hi guys,
I have been a lurker(sounds creepy to say) in the background for a few years and really wanted to join the squadron. I am completley addicted to scale modeling and if my wife would let me, I would probably sleep in the garage!(better not say that too loud) I think the best thing right now for me is my 2 year old comes out to the garage and gets so fired up when he see's the big props and gives me a huge...whooooooooooh!

Currently I am starting a CARF P-51 that will be my latest competition model, while I have a 99% finished Ziroli 92" P-47 waiting for some sunshine this spring to get its first flight. Each one has a belt reduction unit, or PSRU, that I have designed and constructed so that I can swing near scale 4 blade props. I could ramble on all day about this stuff but I would probably run out of coffee- lol!

Thanks to all who contribute

best regards,

John

John,
Welcome, I was stationed on Whidbey Island for 15 years (A-6, EA-6B) The WIRCS have access to the Navy bounce field which makes a great place to test fly your latest creation. The PACNW is a great place to be a modeler.
We would love to see what you did for your PRSU is it a belt drive? Your own design or copy improved version tell us more!

Thanks guys!

Hi Sparky,
I have been out to Whidbey several times and seen the Jets over Whidbey. Its a great place but unfortunately to far to drive all the time, and my home field is only 20 min away

The reductions are my own design, no copies or modified parts. I do all my own calcs, CNC prototyping, and bench testing. My airplanes I have now all have my reductions in them and I am planning on doing a review thread here after I fly my Jug this spring, but untill then I will share a couple pics...
If all keeps progressing well, I will have a small website to introduce and we will be producing these
Thanks for asking!

best regards,
John

Welcome John,

I too am a fan of reduction drives''. Nice work! Looking forward to your posts on the matter. I have a unit designed for my super cub with a g23 mag. It's still on my old school drafting board though. Haven't had any time to build it or birds because of the honey do list.'' This is a great site for builders, I'm sure you will like it.

Happy Building,
Greg

Hey John - thanks for "coming out of the closet!"

That reduction drive looks awesome!  Looking forward to your review.

Too kool! You will fit in real nicely here.
Whidbey is a great place for the first flight on something big and unusual. As you have a excellent chance of getting the plane on the ground in one piece. I think I flew the last df at Jets Over Whidbey, all the jet guys love the flying site.
