My name is Robert.

I got interested in RC when I was a very young boy in Peru. Back there I managed to build several Free Flight models from Kits. Then one day after a lot of begging managed to get my father to "bring me" an RC plane on one of his business trips to the US.

He brought me an Electric Sportavia. My father had the sense to force me to find "someone" to help me learn to fly it. And that got me to join a band of kids that belonged to a group/club headed by an long time modeller called "Don Julio".

Under Don Julio's guidance I built and flew several RC gliders. Despite the short experience with the Sportavia (pm me i'll tell you), Powered Flight was out of my reach for a long time due to several reasons.

Eventually thought after buying a brand new Futaba "gold seriers" radio I built and flew my 1st Powered RC model. A Bill Northrop Apprentice. I never really learned to fly that plane well mainly due to lack of time and a suitable powered model flying site.

Life got on the way. I left Peru, went to college, got a job, became a US-citizen, got married and have one 5 y/o boy. It is now 2013 more than 20 years later and I am back into RC. I am finishing a glider kit that I started to build 10 years ago. And got a Kadet Senior ARF to finally learn to fly powered models.

My plan now is:

  1. Master the Kadet trainer.
  2. Master a more advance trainer. (My flight instructor insisted I fly something other than the kadet before attempting to fly my scale model.
  3. Transition to flying scale models.

I plan on building a 1/5 scale PT-19 as my first scale model. Perhaps the start of a war-bird sequence of models PT-19, AT-6, P-51...

Got my Dynaflight PT-19 kit today!

This will be my very first gigant scale model. Before this I have built gliders and other trainer-like models.

Finally I get to build an airplane that looks real !!!

I wonder what "Don Julio" (the old-man leader of our little-band of teenagers) would say. They used to call me AXE hand back then. But later they had to eat their words as I actually learned to build models that were not heavy as rocks and rough as firewood :)

I too welcome you to the forum. As 190 Dave said you have an interesting journey ahead of you-you should have a great time. The PT-19 is an excellent for scale model and is one you will always look back on with fondnes. Please do start a thread so we can all watch your 19 go together-we all learn ro each other.

Again, welcome to RCSB.

Thank you Ron.

As a matter of fact, I do have two other threads. I created the first one when I was asking general questions about a P-19 kit to buy:

http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1987 9&PN=1

After I decided which kit to build and I obtained the Kit I started a build thread:
