Top Flite Tar Heel Hal 85 inch ARF, changed over to a fantasy paint scheme. DLE-55 side exhaust with 22x10 Xoar prop. Robart pneumatic retracts. About 23 pounds, as I recall.

Finished this ARF last June or so, but it's been way too hot to get out with her. So, today, the temps and winds looked favorable and I took off to the flying field. Did the usual engine setup with the cowl off, with test pilot and engine pro Barry Ponder adjusting the needle valves. Got her running sweet, put the cowl back on and let her rip. Barry flew it as fine as I've ever seen a first flight. After landing, I checked the engine temps - at the spark plug it was 160 Degrees F and higher up on the engine it was 200 Degrees F. Very nice temps for 95 Deg F outside air and brand new engine.

Sorry, no inflight pics yet. No other photographers out there today.

Photos by Barry Ponder.

Mr Potato Head in the photo for some reason. Ha

Congrats on a successful outing!  I have the similar sized Topflite  razorback, planning to try it out Sept 24.  I'very got a 24x10 prop, but thinking I should drop back to 22 or 23. How did you like the prop on yours?

Hi Gringotuerto, I have been running a Xoar 22x10 on DLER-55's for a number of years. They work great and give good speed. Stay away from the laminated jobs though, as they rob you of 300 RPM. I run the Xoar "Sword" mostly. One club member told me he likes to run a 23x8 on his. It's a trade off. I think they might be pretty close. My brand new DLE-55 turned 6500 RPM on the first engine tune with the 22x10. A 24x10 might be a bit much on a 55cc engine, could overheat if you run it hard. Good luck on your maiden.

Flew again on Thursday. We had a professional photog out there and she took some excellent photos. She's the wife of the club president; her name is Nancy Abby. Her pics were so good, I had to share them. They look photo-shopped they are so clear.
