Some of you gents may recall that I built and flew an OS 1.60 powered Midwest AT-6 (Or Harvard in my case) which turned out to be a really great airplane. Equipped with the Robart retracts made specifically for the model and an OS 1.60 two stroke it gave me five years of trouble free service and I was quite fond of the entire package. While a bit challenging on the ground it was a superb flyer and could be flown like a pattern ship if the pilot so desired. When the inevitable finally happened I figured that was the end of it since Midwest was out of business and I had too many project to consider building another one even if I could find a kit. Not long after though a good friend and flying buddy, Jeremy Roth, offered me his nearly RTF airframe with retracts for a smokin' price so I jumped on the deal. Jeremy is one of the finest scale builders I know and the airplane is incredibly well built. He had campaigned it for several years but damaged it slightly in a botched landing and decided it was time to part ways with it. As many of you know the biggest drawback to the Midwest kit was the lack of flaps. Jeremy rectified that little problem by adding them to the airplane as well as giving it a fully airfoiled set of tail feathers to replace the non-scale units it was designed with. The workmanship is second to none. I patched up the damaged areas and added the yellow trim as well as the "US Navy" but the remainder is as built by Jeremy. Fortunately he had used the same OS 1.60 as I had been flying in my airplane so it was a simple task to install my engine and that, along with a bit of radio gear, saw the airplane returned to flight ready. I may get it test flown some time in the next couple of weeks. However, it is starting to get pretty warm around here (Phoenix area) and flying season, for me anyway, is coming to an end. Thus it may be September or October before I get it flown. I am looking for a T-6 style spinner somewhere around 3 inches in diameter if anyone has one lying around. On to the pictures!
