Hello All,

I am in the midst of retiring from a large, well-respected Aerospace and Defense firm and am just getting into RC. I just finished my first flying project, a Dancing Wings T-10, and had a blast with it. I've now overreached grossly and bought an RBC Kits F-35C (a plane built by a large, well-respected Aerospace and Defense firm ). The build is way out of my depth and eventually flying it is way way out of my depth. But I love the plane, I love challenges, and I have the time to learn what I need to learn ... which is a major reason I'm here with you. I'm looking forward to learning from you all!

Craig

Craig,
Welcome to: a well-respected scale modeling site.... :0). Here, we offer more than skill sets, learning about this hobby, buying (if possible nowadays) new or better materials, learning history, & more; we also offer free of charge, advice, chat, pictures, friendship ( I’ve made new friends from all over the world), respect (always, but in a relaxed way), dignity (but with a dash of humor) & family style camaraderie for all.

Hello Craig, welcome to RCSB!

I understand your desire, but may I suggest starting a similar but less complex model first?  There are lots of skills to learn, some of which you may already have, others you need to pick up.

As always, help is just a computer away!

Craig, First off, congrats on your retirement.

I used to fly in and navigate one of your large, well-respected Aerospace and Defense firm's products.. The EC-130Q Hercules back in my Navy days.

I'm new to this site and new to R/C as well. This is the place to learn.

BTW.. I like the name..  I have an Aunt and Uncle who both worked for and retired from that same large, well-respected Aerospace and Defense firm.

Hi Craig

Welcome aboard

I am primarily a scratch builder with over 50 years experience, so, if I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to ask. You are most welcome to come visit, and, I will help you in every way possible

All,

Thanks for the kind welcomes ...

Tony: Thanks! I love the F-117 you're holding! Awesome!!

Gary: I look forward to all of the above. Thanks!

Jeff (Skye): You are (of course) 100% right. I tripped across the F-35 when I was looking for a second project and simply fell in love. The Dancing Wings was quite a challenge because the instructions were a tad thin. I haven't glued a stick yet on the F-35 so I'm very open to recommendations of a second build. I prefer a kit to plans but I know there are vendors who will cut all the parts from a plan, resulting in a kit. Any recommendations?

Mark: Kudos on ciphering out the name! I've sort of become our group's historian. Alan Loughead changed his spelling to Lockheed because his brother Malcolm had changed his and formed the very successful Lockheed Hydraulic Brake Company. Malcolm had changed his because there are too many ways to mispronounce Loughead . Best to you, your Aunt and your Uncle!

Josh: A most generous offer! Hartsville is under two hours away from me. When things get back to normal I'd love to take you up on your offer and visit your shop. Thanks!

Craig

Top Flite kits - if you can find them anymore - are good on instructions, well illustrated manuals.

I could be worth your while to buy a couple of plan sets of aircraft that grab you and study them to see how they are intended to go together.  Both Jerry Bates Plans and Ziroli plans are very good.
