Hello all,

I'm a semi-veteran builder, but I have only a couple scale airplanes under my belt. Smaller stuff, from kits.

I'm contemplating building a Hawker Tempest or Typhoon from plans.

Can anyone give me any insight into the various designers and the plus' and minus' to their designs?

I'm looking at the Vailly Aviation, Sepp Uiberlacher, Brian Taylor, and Jerry Bates designs.

Any thoughts or suggestions for a heavy metal newbie?

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome aboard!... Also, as a member don't forget the huge plans repository. There are plans on there for a 99" Typhoon. The number of different plans that you can download and have printed is worth the price of admission and then some.

Spinnetti,

I work about 1/2 a mile from TPA... You're probably going to fly right past my office windows. Enjoy your trip.

From here? Or just passing through?

Chris,
I built the Taylor Typhoon and found it to be a very accurate scale model and enjoyable build. Mine is a control line model so I can't comment on R/C flight, but it flies very well as a C/L model. Your choice may be determined by how big you want to build.

Going to Top Gun?

You may get some information/inspiration there, just up the road from you.

I'm in Las Vegas for a wedding & my wife wanted to go to Florida to see the space

centre & Epcot.  Quite a coincidence it's the same time as Top Gun!

I'm sure she will be excited to go to yet another model plane event ....

John.
