Hi,
Been a member for some time and previously been a supporter and have just paid up my supporter status again.
Previously spent a lot of time here when I looked into getting a Mick Reeves Camel, but decided to hold off on it for a while.
Have now decided to build a Springfield Hall Bulldog, I looked into the Don Neill plans, but decided to instead go with some plans from Warren Russell of NZ Aeroproducts. He offers a set of plans in 1/4 scale, bringing the wing in at 78".
I sent the money off earlier today, so should hopefully get the plans late next week at a guess. I'll be sending them off to get some parts laser cut most likely. The plans also come with a set of reference drawings, photos, etc.. and it is this sort of stuff Warren is quite well known for so hopefully the whole set of stuff should be of great quality, which of the little i've found online his plans, and the reference books he does are meant to be very good.
Cheers,
Luke

Welcome Luke.
The Hall Bulldog is a unique plane. Should be a great model, especially at 1/4 scale. How do you plan to power it?
Cheers. Sean

Hi guys,
A build thread will definitely be on the cards once the plans get here. I will no doubt have some headscratch moments so will need all the help I can get.
I agree it's definitely a interesting subject and something that doesn't get modeled very often which is part of appeal outside of the amazing lines and the gullwing.
I'm undecided on the power unit yet. If I'm honest I don't even know what size motor it's designed around. I've got to speak to Warren on Friday to see if he got the money so I'll have another list of questions for him. My decision was purely over keeping the model as large as practical for me to store and transport. Currently all my models are electric and I have a couple 35cc equivalent electric setups. But I suspect it will need something in the 40cc-50cc range in which case I'll go for a gas setup. I like the look of the VVRC 40cc twin.
Cheers,
Luke

Hi Luke, welcome bud. Those NZ plans are really expensive! No alternatives?

Hi Luke,
What's the all up weight supposed to be? That will help you determine the required power.
Go with gas. Noise is good!!
Cheers. Sean

They are expensive plans but do include a full set of photos, 3 views etc. so that is probably worth something as well. There Is a set of Don Neill plans but bigger than is probably practical for me (90"+ from memory) and since I'm planning on getting some parts laser cut I didn't want the hassle of redesigning cut outs etc.. after shrinking a larger plan.
No idea of projected weight, that's another question on my list.
I did find something that suggested .91 2 stroke glow motor, but I reckon that would be on the pretty marginal side.
